Crankshaft Analysis

It is desired to make a frequencies study of a crankshaft made of AISI 304 material and how different torsions and centrifugal forces affect the deformation of parts with their resonant frequencies.

Understanding a Frequency Study

A natural frequency describes an oscillation mode; a forced-response study asks how a specified excitation drives it. A displayed mode shape may be scaled for visibility and is not an operating displacement. This distinction is useful when investigating vibration in rotating machinery.

Testing and Real-World Use

This could be tested by checking mode frequencies under mesh refinement and comparing them with clearly specified rotational excitation frequencies. Modal analysis is useful for identifying conditions that deserve further vibration investigation, but it does not alone establish forced-response amplitude or a safe operating speed.
